Product details
| The Josef Estate Cuvee is ripe with delicate fruits and a herbaceous finish, as well as fresh pineapple and pear notes. It also offers the ripeness of exotic fruits with flavors of vanilla, coconut, and subtle wood notes. The wine combines Welschriesling, Malvasia, Pinot Blanc, and Zelen into a drinkable and approachable cuvée. Carefully crafted with a lot of hard work and selection throughout the year, fully ripe grapes are harvested in the autumn, macerated for 7 days, and then fermented in oak barrels for 24 months. Minimal intervention is used to keep the wine as natural as possible during vinification. No sulfites or any additives have been used throughout the year, instead active batonnage (stirring of the lees) is performed. After malolactic fermentation and some aging, the wine is bottled unfiltered with a minimal amount of sulfites. Its characteristic and uncomplicated taste make it a memorable experience for any wine lover. |

| The wine pairs well with vegetarian dishes, roasted vegetables, smoked fish, chicken dishes, and spicy foods. The ideal serving temperature is around 15°C to fully appreciate this wine. It is recommended to use large wine glasses (e.g. Zalto Bordeaux) for an enhanced drinking experience. The Zelen is the perfect choice for special occasions or an elegant dinner. For optimal storage of the Josef Estate Cuvee, a cool, dark place, preferably a wine cellar, is recommended. With a constant temperature and appropriate humidity, this wine can continue to develop its flavor profile over the years. Once opened, the wine can be enjoyed within a few days.  A historic small winery with ecological values: The Cultus Winery |
| The organic farm of Cultus is surrounded by a stone wall of the small village of Podraga in Primorska. The village, located at the beginning of the Vipava Valley, is a historic wine village mentioned by Johann Weikhard von Valvasor (a Slovenian polymath & topographer). It is difficult to determine how far back the art of winemaking on the current estate goes. Considering the earliest recorded date, its beginning can be traced back to the year 1683. Matej has been a farmer since childhood. Once a traditional mixed farm, today it is his key to producing and living with ecological wine. Starting in 2023, the vineyards are certified organic with the European organic label. This certification ensures that the grapes used in wine production are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, mineral fertilizers, and herbicides. Biomass is used as fertilizer. The vineyards are surrounded by diverse greenery like trees and shrubs where insects can live, breed, and feed. Additionally, there are numerous "insect hotels" in the vineyards. A small area (4 ha) of family-owned vineyards is cultivated. The organic vineyards are part of the dynamic landscape and are located on various plots around the village. The vineyards are planted with the white, indigenous varieties Zelen and Pinela. Additionally, there are Istrian Malvasia, Italian Riesling (Welschriesling), and the red varieties Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah. The level of mechanization is low – most of the work in the vineyards is done manually, as in the past. |
